Frances Mcdowell is a multidisciplinary artist with a focus in painting and screen printing. McDowell is based in New York and is currently in her third year completing a Bachelors in Studio Art and Sociology at Oberlin College. Her work investigates intersection points of the emotional and physical landscapes we inhabit. Visually, McDowell seeks to abstract familiar forms like the human body with a more graphic treatment informed by her early studies of landscape. In her practice, McDowell considers the contradicting forces that exist within this landscape framework and how they might be represented across artistic mediums. Tensions between functionality and emotionality, cycles and stasis, alienation and attachment are prevalent in her work.
